INGLEWOOD, Calif. -- Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford passed Philip Rivers for sole possession of sixth place on the NFL's career passing touchdown list after a stellar performance in Monday night's 28-6 win over the New York Giants.
Stafford's third-quarter 11-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Davante Adams was Stafford's 426th career regular-season touchdown, moving him past Rivers. It was also Stafford's third touchdown of the game; he ended with four total to go along with 327 passing yards.
"I am a huge fan of this league, have been since I was a little kid," Stafford said. "And to be mentioned in the same light as some of the guys that I grew up watching and idolizing and wanting to be like and then getting the chance to compete against some of those guys as well, it's a special feeling."
Stafford now trails only Tom Brady (649), Drew Brees (571), Peyton Manning (539), Aaron Rodgers (528) and Brett Favre (508) on the all-time list.
"This game is a special game," Stafford said. "It's treated me and my family and my life really well. So, just happy to be a part of it and have so much respect for those guys that did it before me."
Stafford is the second player in NFL history to throw at least three touchdowns in 25 or more games for multiple franchises (25 Rams, 42 Lions), according to ESPN Research. Manning had 64 with the Colts and 29 with the Broncos.
Adams, who caught two of Stafford's four touchdown passes Monday night, called it "a blessing" to be a part of history with his quarterback.
"I had many opportunities with some great quarterbacks in this league, but to be here at the end of my career with Matthew and just to be able to bond with him and be a part of his deal and watch him continue to etch his name in history, it's a blessing," Adams said.
