LANDOVER, MD. -- Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley said he has received assurances from the front office that he will remain with the team beyond the Nov. 10 trade deadline.
"When that message was relayed to me, it definitely does mean a lot," Barkley said after Sunday night's 27-10 loss to the Washington Commanders.
"The whole time my mindset was, we have a little issue going on right now and I feel like I'm the type of player and the type of leader that can help us get out of it, and I want to be one of the reasons why we fix it."
The Eagles have lost six straight games and are now 2-6 this season. They have one game remaining before the trade deadline, at home against the NFC East-leading New York Giants next Sunday.
Howie Roseman has been among the most active general managers when it comes to trades during his tenure and has already made what can be considered a "sell" move by dealing offensive lineman Cam Jurgens and a 2027 seventh-round pick to the Baltimore Ravens in October for a 2027 fifth-round pick and 2028 second-rounder.
More losses have piled up since then, and with them have come questions about whether Philadelphia will continue to explore moving players for draft capital.
Barkley said he "really didn't read too much into" the social media speculation about his future but appreciated the backing of the front office.
"I have nothing but respect for this organization, top to bottom. I really do think they do things the right way," he said. "It's an honor and a privilege every single time I get to go out there and play for this organization and put on the midnight green."
Barkley, who has been dealing with hamstring and back injuries, once again had his snaps limited against the Commanders. He played 22 of a possible 68 plays and ended with 14 touches for 54 yards and a touchdown.
