NEW YORK -- Baltimore Orioles right-hander Shane Baz left Tuesday night's start against the New York Mets after getting hit on his pitching arm by Bo Bichette's 105.1 mph line drive in the fifth inning.
X-rays were negative, Orioles manager Craig Albernaz said following his team's 7-5 victory in 11 innings.
The ball caromed off Baz's upper arm and into shallow left field. Baz immediately crouched and shook the glove off his left hand before gripping his right arm.
Albernaz and an athletic trainer came out to check on the 27-year-old starter, who tried to throw a warmup pitch but sailed it to the backstop. Baz immediately walked off the mound and into the dugout.
"He's pretty sore," Albernaz said after the game.
Baz allowed two runs and seven hits while striking out two. He was relieved by Grant Wolfram, who immediately picked off Bichette.
Baz is 6-15 with a 4.11 ERA in his first season with Baltimore after spending his first four with Tampa Bay. He leads the Orioles with 30 starts and 173 innings pitched but is tied with Cleveland's Tanner Bibee for the most losses in the majors.
Baltimore remained three games behind Cleveland for the final American League wild card.
