LOS ANGELES -- The Boston Red Sox held out Willson Contreras from Saturday night's 3-2 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers as he underwent concussion testing, but the All-Star first baseman is expected to be back in the lineup Sunday.
After Saturday's win, Boston interim manager Chad Tracy told reporters he expects Contreras to be ready for the series finale in Los Angeles, barring any surprises in his last run through of tests in the morning.
On Friday, Contreras left the series opener after he was hit by a pitch on the side of the helmet in the third inning of Boston's 9-4 victory.
Contreras, who is hitting .288 with 23 home runs and 67 RBIs, was struck by a 95 mph fastball from reliever Will Klein. Contreras was checked on by the medical staff before heading to first base. He had already hit the dirt after Klein's first pitch of the at-bat was inside.
The Red Sox started Nick Sogard at first base with Contreras out of the lineup Saturday. Batting sixth, Sogard went 0-for-2 with a walk in the win.
