It has indeed been a season of highs and lows, but LionsXII's journey in Malaysian football finally came to an end last Saturday.
We take a look at the ten games that defined the Singaporean outfit's four seasons in the Malaysia Super League (MSL):
10. LionsXII 1-2 Kelantan - MSL, Jan. 10 2012, Jalan Besar Stadium
After all the hype, it all came down to this: a Singaporean side back in Malaysian football and coming up against the defending MSL champions on home soil.
It did look as though a fairytale start was on the cards when Baihakki Khaizan, returning after three seasons in Indonesia, headed the LionsXII into the lead.
It was not to be in the end, as goals from Norshahrul Idlan Talaha and Muhammad Ghaddar turned the game around, but the display in front of 7,500 fans at the Jalan Besar Stadium gave plenty of reason to be optimistic.
9. LionsXII 2-1 Kuala Lumpur - MSL, Jan. 17 2012, Jalan Besar Stadium
At the third time of asking, the LionsXII finally recorded their first victory in Malaysian football.
An own-goal by Aiman Syazwan handed them the lead just before the break, before a Shahdan Sulaiman goal -- one of eight that year -- doubled their tally.
A Safuwan Baharudin red card, followed by Fazuan Abdullah pulling one back for Kuala Lumpur from the resultant penalty, threatened to mess things up, but the hosts held on to get off the mark.
8. ATM 1-1 LionsXII (2-2 on aggregate, 5-4 on penalties) - Malaysia Cup, Oct. 11 2012, Majlis Perbandaran Selayang Stadium
It was a season that promised so much, and the LionsXII were tantalisingly close to reaching the Malaysia Cup final, leading 2-1 on aggregate with seconds left to play.
But right at the death, Marlon Alex James popped up to score in the 97th minute to send the semifinal second leg into extra-time, which was followed by the dreaded penalty shootout.
It was the LionsXII who failed to keep their nerve as Shaiful Esah, Baihakki and Yasir Hanapi allowed ATM to claim a 5-4 shootout triumph, but the defeat would go on to provide the Singaporean side plenty of motivation in their quest for silverware the following year.
7. LionsXII 1-0 Kelantan - MSL, Apr. 9 2014, Jalan Besar Stadium
Coming into their meeting against Kelantan in March of 2013, it looked like another defeat was on the cards for V. Sundramoorthy's charges.
After all, the Red Warriors had won the treble the previous year and always seemed to have the edge over the LionsXII, who were now playing a much younger and more inexperienced team.
Nonetheless, youthful endeavour triumphed in the end, as the LionsXII claimed their first-ever win over Kelantan; Shahfiq Ghani beating the offside trap with three minutes remaining before coolly sliding his shot past Khairul Fahmi.
6. LionsXII 3-0 Pahang - MSL, Feb. 16 2013, Jalan Besar Stadium
After two consecutive defeats, including one by PKNS FC which eliminated them from the FA Cup, the LionsXII's 2013 campaign was hanging in the balance.
The visit of Pahang to the Jalan Besar Stadium was by no means a straightforward test, especially considering Tok Gajah went on to win the Malaysia Cup that year.
But, with some style, goals from Faris Ramli, Safuwan and Fazrul Nawaz handed the hosts a crucial win. This was also the start of the 16-match unbeaten run that ultimately finished with the 4-0 rout of Felda United that sealed the MSL crown.
5. Johor Darul Ta'zim 2-2 LionsXII - MSL, Jan. 28 2014, Larkin Stadium
There was precious little for LionsXII fans to shout about in 2014, as they finished eighth in the league and were eliminated in the group stage of the Malaysia Cup in Fandi Ahmad's maiden year in charge.
The one game that did give them plenty to cheer about came against big-spending Johor Darul Ta'zim, which saw LionsXII take on former heroes Hariss Harun and Baihakki for the first time since they crossed the Causeway.
JDT were headed for a routine victory at Larkin Stadium following goals from big-name imports Luciano Figueroa and Pablo Aimar, but after the latter was replaced, the visiors mounted a stirring comeback and goals from Khairul Amri and Hafiz Abu Sujad earned them a deserved point.
4. LionsXII 9-0 Sabah - MSL, Jun. 16 2012, Jalan Besar Stadium
It was one of those evenings where everything that could go right for LionsXII did, and it was the game that they announced they were here to make an impact in Malaysian football.
Inspirational skipper Shahril Ishak may have been missing from the side but it mattered little, as stand-in captain Hariss Harun stepped up with a brilliant hat-trick.
There were also goals from Shahdan Sulaiman (2), Agu Casmir, Irwan Shah, Sufian Anuar and a Shahrul Azhar own-goal as the LionsXII completed a resounding triumph.
3. Kelantan 1-3 LionsXII - FA Cup, May. 23 2015, Bukit Jalil National Stadium
It may not be the Malaysia Cup, but there has always been a certain magic about cup competitions in Malaysian football that has fans dreaming about them more than league titles.
Earlier this May, the LionsXII claimed their second piece of silverware as they produced a smash-and-grab 3-1 win over Kelantan to win the FA Cup in front of a sellout crowd at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium.
After Kelantan winger Wan Zack Haikal had cancelled out Faris' opener, Sahil Suhaimi came off the bench to devastating effect, as his two goals effectively won his side the cup.
2. LionsXII 4-0 Felda United - MSL, Jul. 2 2013, Jalan Besar Stadium
It took the LionsXII just 18 months from their debut to climb to the summit of the MSL.
There was already plenty of expectation at the Jalan Besar Stadium ahead of their penultimate match of the 2013 campaign against struggling Felda, with a win enough to seal the title with a game to spare.
However, the LionsXII had to find a way past their stubborn opponents and needed an Azrul Ahmad own-goal to break the deadlock. From then on, LionsXII dominated the match as further strikes by Shahril, Fazrul and Shahfiq rounded off a comprehensive, title-sealing triumph.
1. Singapore 2-0 Pahang (3-4 on aggregate) - Malaysia Cup, 28-11-15, Jalan Besar Stadium
It may not be a game that won the LionsXII any silverware, but every story has to have an ending.
Ultimately, their storied journey came to an emotional end against one of their biggest rivals, Pahang.
They finished off with a home win, like so many before, displaying the trademark determination and endeavour in trying to overturn a deficit.
It was not enough to advance to the semifinals of the Malaysia Cup, but LionsXII did win 2-0 to give the Jalan Besar faithful one final chance to cheer their heroes off the pitch, in what proved to be an emotional conclusion to the latest eventful chapter in Singapore football.
