Not content with a run-of-the-mill bumper sticker or club crest tattoo, one Tottenham fan has gone to extreme lengths to convey his passion for his beloved football team.
Nailing his colours to the mast, lifelong Spurs fan Gary Lane has stumped up the 100-odd quid required and changed his middle name by deed poll from "Mark" to "White Hart" -- see what he's done there?
Spot on: the 55-year-old's full legal name is now Gary White Hart Lane. The hod carrier from Knaphill, Surrey, has been a Spurs supporter for almost 40 years and regularly makes the 116-mile round trip to watch his beloved side's home games.
The man himself told the Surrey Advertiser: "I'd been going for so long and my surname was already Lane. And I like a bit of banter. I know a lot of people at Spurs, some of them with stalls up there.
"That's what happens when you've been going for 40 years. When I tell people my full name on the phone they can crack up. But if it's an Arsenal or Chelsea fan they can get the hump. And when I told my mum I'd changed it, she nearly fell over."
While the name change may seem light-hearted on the surface, Gary said there was also an emotional catalyst behind his decision to name himself after Tottenham's home stadium.
He revealed that the death of his 3-year-old son Jake also prompted him to change his name in tribute after he realised he'd never be able to achieve his dream of taking the youngster to White Hart Lane to watch Spurs with him.
