CLEVELAND -- The Carolina Panthers lost 21-18 to the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, and they might have lost a few starters, at least temporarily, to injury as well.
Quarterback Bryce Young (lower body), cornerbacks Jaycee Horn (quad) and Mike Jackson (groin), left guard Damien Lewis (elbow) and wide receiver Jalen Coker (quad) left the game during various points because of injuries.
Young and Lewis, who were inspected by trainers, both returned to the field in the second half.
Following the game, coach Dave Canales said Young was dealing with "something." When asked whether the injury was related to Young's lower body, Canales affirmed the location.
"He's working through something, but he was able to finish," Canales said. "We'll give you more information on that once we get a full evaluation. But he was cleared to go back in and finish the game.
"There [were] a couple of balls that he would normally hit, so I'm wondering if he was working through something -- trying to find his base to get those balls off. He can make those throws, from different platforms and different things. He'd be the first one to tell you that up here. But he settled in, he found a way to play ball, and all of a sudden, we're moving the chains again and really just proud of how he battled us back right into the game."
Young, who threw for 291 yards, a touchdown and an interception against Cleveland, didn't make excuses for coming up short against the Browns. He also wouldn't provide detail on his ailment.
"Nothing -- it's football; we're all dealing with stuff," Young said. "It doesn't have any bearing on the game. Tough one, just didn't get it done."
Carolina was already without linebacker Devin Lloyd (calf), wide receiver Xavier Legette (knee) and safety Nick Scott (rib) entering the game.
Coker, who had been battling an ankle injury, played throughout the first half but left with a quad injury.
"His quad lit up on him a little bit," Canales said. "And so, the pain wasn't really going away. We're testing the strength, and we decided we couldn't put him back out there in that condition."
Jackson also left the game in the first half. Horn exited after the game-winning touchdown throw from Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson to tight end Harold Fannin Jr.
"We're going to have to evaluate that and see where he's at," Canales said of Horn. "But he was not going to be coming back in."
The Panthers will host the Detroit Lions (2-1) on "Sunday Night Football" in Week 4. They'll then have a bye in Week 5.
Longtime starting tackles Taylor Moton (blood clot) and Ickey Ekwonu (patellar tendon) are eligible to return from the non-football injury list and physically unable to perform list, respectively, following the bye. Defensive end Tershawn Wharton is also eligible to return from the PUP list for Week 6.
