Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce is seeking a second opinion on the left heel injury that knocked him out of Sunday night's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, sources told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler on Monday.
Pierce is considered week-to-week, a source said.
The injury is to the same heel that Pierce had surgically repaired in March. X-rays after the game were negative and head coach Shane Steichen said Monday the Colts are "still gathering information."
Pierce, the Colts' top wideout, was unable to put any weight on his left leg and needed assistance exiting the game with 1:45 left in the first quarter. After an initial exam in the medical tent, Pierce was carted to the locker room for X-rays.
Pierce, who signed a four-year, $114 million contract in March, was expected to be a centerpiece of the Colts' offense this season. But recovery from the procedure on his heel spilled into training camp and lingered past the preseason. He finally returned to practice late last month and was expecting to ramp up his playing time in the weeks to come after being cleared to play in Week 1.
With Pierce out, veteran receiver Laquon Treadwell took the majority of his snaps against the Chiefs and finished with three catches for 61 yards.
