That's all from us for now, folks! Be sure to join us again in a few hours for today's second game as the action shifts to Adelaide. The weather forecast looks fantastic at the Adelaide Oval for the Strikers vs. Scorchers clash, so we should be in for a full night of cricket. This is Rashad, signing off alongside Ranjith. Bye for now!

4:22 pm Despite the massive anticipation surrounding this blockbuster clash, the persistent rain ultimately had the final say. The match has officially been called off, leaving both teams to split the points on a frustratingly gloomy day in Sydney. It was a slow, tentative start from the star opening pair, as both batters struggled to find their rhythm against the Hurricanes' seamers. On a pitch spiced up by the drizzle, the ball moved and skidded unpredictably, leading to several missed strokes and mistimed shots as the bounce and seam movement took control. The Hurricanes' bowlers were relentless, sticking to a disciplined line and length that gave the batters no room to breathe. With the points split today, the Hobart Hurricanes have officially secured their place in the playoffs! Meanwhile, the Sydney Sixers have moved up into 3rd place, keeping themselves firmly in the hunt for a top-four finish.

4:20 pm The two umpires, still under their umbrellas, are heading toward the boundary ropes to discuss with both captains. That persistent, nagging drizzle has now been falling continuously over Sydney for nearly two hours, keeping us in this frustrating holding pattern.

Mark: "@Iqbal - Harper has to be in the team. Leading the stats for runs and wicketkeeper dismissals. Brown and Sandhu are unlucky - Brown only has one gear (Harper and Warner have more tricks if they lose a couple of quick ones at the other end) and Sandhu has been the most expensive of the leading wicket takers. Connolly trading off last season's form - fair way off the best XI this season for mine."

Superfan Chop: "@Tommo and @Iqbal... and removing the keeper as well????"

Mero: "I've been watching the Hurricanes for more than a decade now, and these two seasons have arguably been the best. It's just been the consistency that even if the bowlers do a poor job, the batting backs them up, and vice versa. The last time they had something like this was in BBL08. Other than that we've had poor seasons nonetheless!!"

Tommo: "@Iqbal removing the BBLs leading run scorer? Interesting...."

Iqbal Siyal: "Replying to @Mark, your team would be strongest if you removed Harper and added Joshua Brown."

Superfan Chop: "Finalists: Hurricanes, Stars, Scorchers, Heat. Team of tournament: Harper (wk), Warner, Connolly, Renshaw, Chaudhury, Scott, Stoinis, Ellis (c), Hossain, Siddle, Pope"

Hashir : "my bbl 11 so far 1) Warner 2) Brown 3) Nikhil 4) Philippe 5) Connolly 6) Stoinis 7) Turner 8) Davies 9) Siddle 10) Edwards 11) kunnehman"

Rashid Arif: "Team of the BBL so far: 1. Sam Harper 2. Jack Wildermuth 3. Cooper Connolly 4. Matt Renshaw 5. Aaron Hardie 6. Marcus Stoinis 7. Jack Edwards 8. Tom Curran 9. Joel Davies 10. Gurinder Sandhu 11. Peter Siddle 12. Liam Scott 13. Rishad Hossain 14. Haris Rauf"

Nafis: "I was excited to see Rishad bowl in SCG and also, this is my first time watching BBL at SCG. unfortunately it's drizzling all around SCG." That's a tough one, mate. I'm honestly surprised that none of the viewers have included Rishad in their Team of the Tournament yet! He's actually the leading wicket-taker among all the spinners this season.

3:45 pm According to Ranjith, the drizzle hasn't stopped. The two umpires, equipped with umbrellas, have made their way to the pitch for another inspection. Interestingly, the two Super Soppers that had been working for the past half hour have now come to a halt.

Ather Nawaz: "Watching cricket from Denmark at -10°C, woke up at 3:30am for Babar Azam
and rain says no. This hurts"

Iqbal Siyal: "My pick for the BBL Team of the Year is the Perth Scorchers. They've shown remarkable resilience, securing several crucial wins from difficult, 'crunch' situations early in the tournament. Their brave lineup appears well-equipped to challenge any opponent in this season's competition. Regarding the playoffs, my current top four picks are (1) P. Scorchers, (2) H. Hurricanes, (3) S. Sixers and (4) M. Stars."

Mark: "Tournament team so far: Harper (WK) (MS), Warner (ST), Chaudhary (HH), Renshaw (BH), Stoinis (MS), Hardie (PS), Edwards (SS), J. Davies (SS), Ellis (C) (HH), Rauf (MS), Siddle (MS)."

Abubakar: " I think four teams who Should lock in playoffs is first of all SS,HH,MS,and PS"

3:30 pm There is still no fresh update from the ground. While the Super Soppers continue their work near the boundary ropes, the covers remain firmly in place over the pitch and square. It's still drizzling, and the two umpires are currently out in the middle having a chat with both team captains. While we wait out the rain, why not jump into the feedback section? Share your BBL Team of the Tournament so far and let us know which four teams you think will lock in those playoff spots!

Yasir : "Ruined my peaceful sleep just to watch Smudge and Babar bat together
come on rain, don't ruin this"

ammiel: "Owen, Harper, Connolly, A Turner, Renshaw, Stoinis, Seifert, Jordan, Bartlett, Siddle and L Wood"

Ather Nawaz: "Alarm at 3:30am ✅Coffee ready ✅Babar Azam watch ❌Thanks, weather"

3:14 pm Two Super Soppers have been deployed and are currently working near the boundary ropes to clear the surface water.

JoeB: "what is the minimum number of overs to constitute a game in the BBL?" 5 overs per side.

3:01 pm The steady rain continues to fall. The three umpires and the ground staff are currently out on the field, huddled under their umbrellas to assess the conditions.

Huzy: "This isn't a case of a lack of intent because they were trying to hit the ball for boundaries but it's just because of the exaggerated seam and bounce, they couldn't get much away."

mehtab: "@muhammad "There's no guarantee 15 overs are left in the game; in fact, they should consider the rain and Duckworth and bat even more aggressively than normal they would."

Ram_Hyd: "With DLS in T20S as it is, @muhammad, this will be a walk in the Sydney park if this is reduced to a 5-over hit for Hurricanes...so I'm not sure if batting slowly in 75% of the power play is wise."

Muhammad: "Just to clear things up, for all those criticizing these 2 for playing slowly, the pitch is doing a lot, paired with some outstanding bowling from the Hurricanes, as well as 15 overs left."

2:46 pm Steady rain is now falling at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Umbrellas have popped up across the stands among the 20,000 fans in attendance, and the ground staff have fully covered both the pitch and the entire square.

Sam Curran: "I've settled well here in the Big Bash League. Hopefully, we can get a win for the guys today. It seems I've brought the English weather with me, so I'm hoping it clears up so we can get points on the board. [ILT20 experience] It was good. It's a really quick tournament, obviously. It was a bit annoying that I couldn't play the whole Big Bash, but I had committed to that. I'm really proud to lead the Desert Vipers to a win there, which was cool; following in your footsteps, I guess! My first experience with the Big Bash in Melbourne the other day was great. I haven't played much at the SCG, so what a stadium. [Role] It's interesting. It's my first time coming to a tournament where I haven't committed to the whole season, which is a little tricky. But I know guys like Sean Abbott well, and I'm here to help the team get into those playoffs and win the trophy."

Shriram: "At SCG, Can't help but appreciate the professionalism and efficiency of the ground staff. 1 min to get the covers off and away from the pitch square. less than 2 mins to get it covered fully!"

Huzy: "This is the lowest control percentage I've seen these two guys bat with. Babar 57%, Smith 26%. Is the pitch really doing that much?" The pitch is providing significant bounce and some noticeable swing, largely due to the moisture in the air and surface. However, the batters are struggling to find their rhythm, playing some unconvincing strokes and failing to time the ball cleanly.

2:30 pm And it's started to rain again! The batters are sprinting toward the dugout while the Hurricanes players make a slow, deliberate walk back to the ropes as the rain returns. The forecast predicts more rain as the day progresses; certainly not the news cricket fans around the world were hoping for. We can only hope this is just another passing shower so we can get back to the action shortly. The covers are on.

Mycah: "I'm here at the game right now and Sydney really needs to be running up the score a little more if they want to take home the win here. The atmosphere is not great in here because of it."
