West Ham sack Nuno Espírito Santo, Scott Parker set to replace him - sources

West Ham have sacked manager Nuno Espírito Santo after their poor start to the Championship season and sources have told ESPN they are closing in on the appointment of Scott Parker as his successor.

West Ham lost 3-1 to West Bromwich Albion at the weekend with the defeat leaving them languishing in eighth place, having been relegated from the Premier League last season.

West Ham are keen to bounce back to the top flight at the first time of asking and dismissed Nuno on Tuesday.

"Following a thorough review of the start to the EFL Championship season, the board of directors believe that a change is necessary at this time in order to ensure that the club's objectives and expectations remain on track," a West Ham statement read.

"West Ham United would like to thank Nuno, Rui and Rui for their hard work and commitment during their time at the Club, and wish them all the very best for the future.

"The process of recruiting a new head coach is already under way."

That new head coach is set to be Parker, who played for the club from 2007 to 2012. Parker has a great track record of taking clubs from the Championship to the Premier League having led Fulham, Bournemouth and Burnley from the second tier to the top flight.

Parker's last job was at Burnley, a post he left in April. Parker is set to be assisted by West Ham legend Mark Noble, who will take temporary charge of the team alongside Steve Potts and Gerard Prenderville as they prepare to face Cardiff City on Wednesday night.

Nuno, who oversaw their relegation, was charged with taking West Ham back up after he was unable to prevent their relegation from the Premier League last term.

But with the team four points shy of the automatic promotion spots and after successive defeats at home, the board have acted. Assistant head coach Rui Pedro Silva and goalkeeper coach Rui Barbosa have also left the club with Nuno.
