We asked Ben Alamar, ESPN's director of sports analytics, to figure out the most famous athletes in the world. Using a formula that combines endorsements with social media fan base and Google search popularity, he ranked the globe's most famous athletes in our second annual World Fame 100.
Uruguay landed one player on our list:
No. 38: Luis Suarez
Why he's got fame: For someone who has courted as much controversy as Uruguay's hero, whose bad behavior has included episodes of biting -- thrice -- kicking, punching, racial abuse and cheating down the years, it's amazing how becalmed his life seems to have become at Camp Nou as one of a now legendary striking trident with Neymar and Messi. How dull that all anyone wants to talk about now are his goals, goals, goals as the Golden Shoe winner in 2015-16 as Europe's leading marksman. -- Ian Chadband
