Howls about this -- Mexican side train in wolf masks

In a bid to instil a "dogged" mentality in his players, the coach of Mexican top flight side Puebla FC has come up with a novel psychological aid to get his team to start defending in packs.

Supposedly copying a training exercise used by Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid, Puebla coach Jose Sanchez Sola is making his defenders wear wolf masks during training, telling the club's in-house television channel that he also has his players repeat the following mantra throughout the drill: "I have to go for every ball, I'm a dog, I have fight it, steal it and defend it."

Skip to the 1:45 mark to see the drill in action.

"It's sending the message with an anchor, the anchor is the mask," Sanchez Sola told Canal Puebla. "To understand that every time you go to play a ball and anchors you in the idea, remember you're a dog."

Not a bad idea really, so long as the Puebla defenders don't invest too heavily and start cocking their legs and marking their territory at corners.

That could get a little messy.
