Cueto close to full fitness

Sale Sharks winger Mark Cueto is closing on a return to action after battling back from a hamstring injury.

The England international picked up the injury in the narrow Guinness Premiership defeat to Saracens earlier this month but is hopeful of playing a key role in the title run-in.

"It's been a rollercoaster season for me," commented Cueto, "starting with me injuring my groin in an England warm up, to playing in the World Cup Final and then when I returned to Sale Sharks I have missed a few games with injury."

Commenting on his recent hamstring pull he added, "It went in the last ten minutes of the game at Saracens and as we only had a five day turn around to the Gloucester game, I was given extra time to recover."

The news will be a welcome relief for Sale who will be without Scotland back Rory Lamont for the rest of the season, due to facial fractures suffered on international duty for Scotland against England.

Most of the Sale Sharks players are enjoying a few days off at the moment, but not Cueto who said, "I am training every day at the moment down at Carrington, we have some massive games coming up, starting with Bath at home next Friday (28th) and it's a game we have to win to help us achieve our target of a top four finish."

Sharks are still in the play-off zone after a 22-16 victory against league leaders Gloucester on Friday.

Full-back Ben Foden returned from a four-month injury lay-off to score Sharks' only try.

The Sharks are currently five points behind third-placed Bath and six points behind second-placed Leicester Tigers in the race for the play-off places.

Sharks know that they will need to perform on the night if they are to keep their place in the top four and maintain their ultimate goal of a top two finish.

The have all ready beaten Bath this season in the EDF Challenge Cup by 25-10 in October, however the Sharks are still smarting from losing at Bath 19-21 in September when the game looked to be won before the west country side slotted a late penalty to snatch victory.
