Kris Chesney is on his way to setting a second personal milestone this season as selection against Sale Sharks at Vicarage Road on Sunday will see him equal the all-time Premiership appearances list.
Should the 34-year-old Saracens forward take to the field for the Guinness Premiership clash, kick off 3pm, he will be tied on 193 appearances alongside Simon Shaw and Neal Hatley.
Earlier this season, Chesney surpassed the 300 appearances mark for Saracens in what has been a 13-year association with the North London club.
"Reaching 300 appearances for Saracens was a tremendous honour and if I get the chance to equal the Premiership record on Sunday, it will be a proud moment," explained Chesney. "I've not got a great deal to shout about in terms of international honours so things like this are a real highlight for me and it's a fantastic feeling having been involved with one club for so long. It would be great to equal the record but there are a few others in the Saracens squad closing in on that number with Hugh Vyvyan and Kevin Sorrell not far behind."
Should Chesney be selected for this Sunday's clash he's also set to go face to face with Sebastian Chabal in the Sale pack.
"They've got a big abrasive forward pack and they have some fantastic players within the squad and I know they will be looking to come to Vicarage Road to put the pressure on us," added Chesney. "We haven't played as we would have liked in recent matches and we've let ourselves down. But we have a chance to put that right on Sunday.
"Our performance against London Irish last week was better although clearly we were disappointed with the end result. What we have to do is get back to playing the way we have been in the past 18 months. As a squad, we know the type of rugby of which we are capable and the style in which we can play.
"The coaches and players have been involved in developing that style and all of us have embraced it. We want to get back to that. But we're dealing in small margins because it only takes the odd knock-on or pass slightly behind a player to make all the difference in a match."
And the thought of coming face to face with Chabal is one that Chesney is looking forward to.
"He's a real talisman for them and gives them a lot of go forward in matches," he added. "I've played against him a few times now and they are always good battles. I'm not a big fan of his hairstyle, but when you look at me that's probably down to jealousy on my part! But seriously, it should be a really good battle between the forward packs."
