Rookie Trinh-Duc refuses to panic

France prodigy Francois Trinh-Duc insists he is far from the finished article after being selected at fly-half for Sunday's RBS 6 Nations Championship showdown against Scotland.

The uncapped 21-year-old is the latest player to be given the chance to nail down the Les Bleus number-10 jersey.

It has become a problem position, with the likes of Frederic Michalak, David Skrela and Lionel Beauxis all tried there over the past few years.

Montpellier's Trinh-Duc, who has shone in France's Top 14 this season, is being tipped as a future star but he knows there are areas he needs to improve.

``I try to play by instinct, by feeling,'' he said.

``This can sometimes be a quality and a fault, because sometimes I get a bit carried away.

``But I am going to try to play as well as possible. There are still plenty of little details to improve on.

``I must improve the consistency of my kicking game, my vision of play, my decision-making.

``I lack a little experience and this type of match is going to help me learn a lot. I am more in competition with myself than with the other fly-halves, Skrela and Beauxis.''

Trinh-Duc is one of four uncapped players who will start against the Scots at Murrayfield.

Winger Julien Malzieu and props Lionel Faure and Julien Brugnaut will be the other Les Bleus debutants, while flanker Fulgence Ouedraogo and lock Loic Jacquet - who have just three caps between them - also start.

Only six players in coach Marc Lievremont's line-up featured at last year's World Cup, and the team have an inexperienced look about them as they look to defend a title they have claimed the last two years.

Lievremont is confident, however, the newcomers have what it takes to make a smooth transition onto the international scene.

``They are not here just to have walk-on parts,'' said the former Dax coach, who will have two other uncapped players - 19-year-old scrum-half Morgan Parra and lock Arnaud Mela - on the bench.

``We want to see them. Some start, some don't. The main thing that concerns us is the homogeneity and the blending between the old guys and the new ones.

``We have spoken a lot these last few days about confidence and taking the initiative; now, we must prove it.

``We have full confidence in them. We are delighted because you would have thought these kids would be a bit timid, but they have done a lot.''
