Alex King has signed a one-year extension to his contract that will see the fly half continue at Wasps until the end of 2006-7.
King is a great example of the motto "Once a Wasp, Always a Wasp" having played his entire professional career at the club. Making his 1XV debut in September 1996, the fly-half's class was not slow to show as he played a major part in bringing a league title to Wasps in his first season.
Although promising great things, his international career has been blighted by badly timed injuries, limiting him to an unjust 5 England caps. For Wasps however, he has turned in a mighty 244 appearances and 1399 points, and was a key figure in the steering Wasps to 3 successive domestic league titles and the Heineken Cup - Zurich Premiership Double in 2004.
On the contract extension, King said, "I'm delighted to be able to continue at Wasps next year. I've been very lucky to have been involved in the incredible success of the club the recent past, and I've had a fantastic testimonial season in 2005-6.
"Wasps is a great place to be - the ethos of the club, the camaraderie with the other players and the quality of the coaching and conditioning we receive are all world class. I am looking forward to challenging for silverware with Wasps again this season, and then building another successful campaign in 2006-7."
Director of Rugby Ian McGeechan said, ". Alex is an accomplished fly-half and we are very glad to be retaining his services next year. He has been one of the key players in the team over the past ten years, and I'm sure that he will continue to be a major contributor to any success that Wasps going forward."
