Springbok centre Robbie Fleck, still nursing an injury, was a spectator as his teammates and a host of potential internationals from around the country participated in coach Harry Viljoen's training session on Sunday.
The session, which sets the pattern for future monthly squad sessions approved by the four Super 12 coaches, was designed to give Viljoen and his technical team a close look at all aspects of planning ahead of the Springbok tour to Italy, France, England and the United States beginning on November 2.
While a definite decision on Fleck's fitness is only due on Monday, it seems unlikely that he will be considered for the tour or indeed be in a position to resume playing with Western Province until next year.
Apart from Butch James, whose flyhalf potential was initially halted by suspension and then by a subsequent knee operation, all the prime tour candidates were involved in the Durban session.
It gave Harry Viljoen an extra chance to have a closer look at some players on the fringe for SA 'A', under-23 or Springbok selection.
The session also included an informal briefing and social get-together and out of town players were due to return to their respective provinces on Monday. - Sapa
