          Cardiff on song against Treviso

Cardiff Blues made it four PRO14 wins in succession as battling Treviso were defeated 31-25 at the Arms Park.

Blues' bonus point win reduced the gap between them and third-placed Toyota Cheetahs to five points with five matches remaining as the two sides battle it out for a play-off spot in Conference A.

The two teams meet in South Africa on 7th April with that fixture likely to prove crucial in determining the outcome.

After a slow start, Blues scored four tries through Owen Lane, Ellis Jenkins, Nick Williams and Olly Robinson with Jarrod Evans converting all four and kicking a penalty.

Giorgio Bronzini, Tomas Baravalle and Monty Ioane scored Treviso's tries with Marty Banks kicking two penalties and a conversion. Ian McKinley added a conversion.

A couple of early errors from the hosts helped Treviso take a fourth minute lead. Kirby Myhill knocked on and at the resulting scrum, Blues were penalised for Banks to put his side ahead.

Further knock-ons from Lloyd Williams and Matthew Morgan prevented Blues from bringing any continuity to their play and another mistake gave Banks a second success.

Treviso therefore led 6-0 at the end of a disjointed first quarter but seven minutes later, Blues opened their account to reward their territorial dominance.

From inside his own half, Evans beat a couple of defenders to get his side moving forward before slick play from Morgan gave Lane an easy run-in.

Within three minutes, Cardiff had a second try with Evans again the instigator. From just outside his own 22, the fly-half split the visitors' defence before feeding Lloyd Williams, who sent Robinson on a 30-metre run to the line.

Evans then undid some of good work by having a kick charged down by Bronzini, who collected to score but the outside half responded by kicking a long-distance penalty to give Blues a deserved 17-13 half-time lead.

Blues made a couple of half-time changes with Tomos Williams and Scott Andrews introduced in place of Lloyd Williams and Taufa'ao Filise, and they soon went further ahead when Ellis Jenkins was first to touchdown a skilful chip ahead from Tomos Williams.

However the home side were not making it easy for themselves and from the restart, another charge down saw Ioane force his way over with McKinley's conversion keeping Treviso firmly in contention.

Nick Williams crashed over from close range to record a bonus point for Blues before Tomos Williams was injured, which resulted in flanker Ellis Jenkins having to play the last quarter at scrum-half, but Blues just survived as Treviso could only manage a late try from Thomas Baravalle.
