Exeter's European Champions Cup campaign is almost certainly over as they succumbed to another defeat at Sandy Park.
The Chiefs squandered a host of chances as they fell to a third consecutive defeat in the competition, which leaves them stuck at the bottom of Pool Five with only two points - 10 behind leaders Clermont.
Jack Maunder scored the Exeter try which Gareth Steenson converted. Baptiste Serin scored a try and a penalty for the French with Ian Madigan kicking a conversion and Lionel Beauxis a late penalty.
The visitors had an early chance to open the scoring when flanker Loann Goujon charged down a clearance from Maunder to put the home side on the back foot.
Skilful passing gave Bordeaux wing Blair Connor a good opportunity for a try but he was forced into touch narrowly short.

After 30 minutes Exeter deservedly took the lead when Maunder scored his first try for the club as he was on hand to support a break from Ollie Devoto to dash over.

Ollie Atkins replaced him as the hosts maintained control but once again they missed an opportunity to make it count as the ball slipped from Steenson's hands as he strained for the touchdown.
