Ireland batter Rebecca Stokell has admitted to breaching the ICC's anti-doping code after a sample she provided during this year's T20 World Cup returned an "adverse finding for a specified substance."
The ICC said in a release on Monday that it had notified Stokell of the alleged violation which she then admitted to and entered voluntary suspension.
"Following the receipt of the notification, Stokell has admitted the violation, which arose from her use of prescription medication, and accepted a voluntary suspension effective 23 October 2026 pending the outcome of the disciplinary process," the ICC statement said.
Cricket Ireland stated that it was an "inadvertent breach of the reporting requirements" and the substance involved was non-performance enhancing.
"I fully accept my mistake and have voluntarily entered into a period of suspension ahead of the findings being returned," Stokell said. "While this was not performance related in any way, I understand that I am responsible for following the anti-doping guidelines and I hope that I can be back playing for Ireland as soon as possible."
Stokell, 26, has played 29 ODIs and 80 T20Is since making her international debut in 2017. The ICC said her sample was taken from an in-competition test on June 23, 2026. That day, Stokell featured in Ireland's T20 World Cup clash against Sri Lanka in Bristol, where Ireland went down by nine wickets. Ireland finished with just one victory from their five games when they stunned West Indies by six wickets in their last league game.
Stokell played all five games but managed just 40 runs at an average of 10 in the tournament with a high score of 16*.
Her last assignment was the ODI series in England in September, which the hosts claimed 3-0. Stokell has scored 468 runs in ODIs and 908 in T20Is, with three and one half-centuries respectively.
