Floyd Mayweather unleashes verbal flurry at Adrien Broner

Retired pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather blasted Adrien Broner on Thursday, calling him a "snake" and commenting on the former four-division titlist's pending legal issues.

During an interview with FightHype.com, Mayweather responded to comments Broner made Wednesday during a news conference to promote his junior welterweight bout in Washington D.C., against Ashley Theophane, whom Mayweather promotes.

Broner (31-2, 23 KOs), who was stripped of his 140-pound title Thursday for coming in overweight, continued the war of words with his former mentor by referring to Mayweather's promotional company as "Hateweather Promotions."

Mayweather answered back.

"He said 'Hateweather Promotions,' so I'm still trying to find out what the AB stands for. 'Always Broke?'" Mayweather asked. "We know he ain't never seen eight figures or nine figures. He has barely ever seen seven figures. It could be safe to say that one of my cars cost more than he made his whole career."

Broner, 26, is also facing legal troubles.

He is wanted in his native Cincinnati for felony assault and robbery charges, although he provided the Washington D.C. Boxing and Wrestling Commission with written assurance that he will turn himself in to authorities after Friday's bout in order to receive a license to fight.

"His nickname is 'The Problem.' I think he has a lot of problems," Mayweather said.

"The problem that he really needs to focus on is his problem in Cincinnati. He's nothing but the problem, Adrien Broner."

Mayweather, who retired in September following his victory over Andre Berto, bragged about his pay-per-view records and referred to Broner as a "free TV-type fighter" who still has a lot to learn.

"He still has [Marcos] Maidana problems that I had to solve for him," said Mayweather, who won a pair of fights against Maidana in 2014 after the Argentine brawler handed Broner his first defeat. "He's talking about that he wanted to fight Shawn Porter again? Why? You lost 11 rounds and only won the 12th round."

He went on to describe Broner as a "snake" and illustrated how their once-close relationship has deteriorated.

"When everyone went out there and said negative things about Adrien Broner, I still had his back. Always," Mayweather said. "When he called me the other day and I tried to give him some positive advice, what did he do? He going to bite me in the back."
