Leeds condemn 'disgusting' alleged racist abuse of Jayden Bogle after Spurs game

Leeds have condemned alleged racist abuse of defender Jayden Bogle on social media following Saturday's 1-0 Premier League win over Tottenham at Elland Road.

Bogle escaped a red or yellow card after catching Spurs forward Mathys Tel on the Achilles with his studs in a first-half challenge.

The Leeds wing-back was not punished by on-field referee John Brooks and, after a lengthy VAR deliberation, it was concluded there had been no serious foul play.

A Leeds statement on Sunday read: "Leeds United Football Club are appalled at the disgusting, racist social media abuse Jayden Bogle suffered following Saturday's Premier League victory against Tottenham Hotspur.

"Leeds United condemns this behaviour in the strongest possible terms. There is no place for racism in football or society.

"The club will work with the Premier League and relevant authorities to identify the individuals and push for the strongest possible action to be taken against them.

"Jayden has the full and unconditional support of the club and his teammates, and we all stand with him at this time. Nobody should ever be subjected to racist abuse."

Tel received extensive treatment after Bogle's challenge and was later replaced by Dominic Solanke.

The Press Association understands the north London club will write to Pro Ref to seek clarification over why Bogle was not shown a red card.

In his post-match news conference, Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi did not directly comment on whether he felt Bogle should have been sent off.

But the Italian questioned Brooks' decision-making throughout the game and said the club were waiting to learn the full extent of Tel's injury.
