Pirelli taking super-softs to Monza

Pirelli has announced that it will bring the medium, soft and super-soft tyre compounds to the Italian Grand Prix in September.

The introduction of the new tyre regulations for 2016 has drawn praise from many in the paddock for providing a variation of dynamic strategy options that teams can now choose for each grand prix, as well as increasing the likelihood of potential shock race results. Teams can now select between three tyre sets rather than two, as in previous seasons.

Italy will be the fourth grand prix in succession that the medium, soft and super-soft compounds will be available after the races in Germany, Hungary and Belgium. Both the medium and soft tyres will be the mandatory race sets in Monza, meaning one will have to be used during the race, while one set of super-softs will be set aside for those who make it through to Q3.

It marks a change from last year's event, where Pirelli took the medium and soft compounds under the old rules which only mandated two compounds during a race weekend.
