Aston Martin to delay F1 decision until January

Aston Martin will not decide whether go ahead with its potential Formula One involvement until January at the earliest, according to reports.

Force India and Aston Martin have been in "tri-partite" discussions since before the Mexican Grand Prix involving the car brand and Johnnie Walker about rebranding the team for next season. However, according to Sky News, shareholders of Aston Martin have expressed reservations about the potential tie-up, while directors of the company are leaning against re-entering the sport.

A source told Sky: "There is a definite inclination not to do it -- in 2016, at least. But it could certainly be revisited in future."

Though that would suggest Aston Martin is unlikely to have a presence on the grid next season, other sources indicate no final decision has been made. Aston Martin's director of marketing and communications Simon Sproule says the company is considering the decision under a broader discussion about motorsport as a whole.

"We have not made any decision," Sproule told Motorsport.com. "And we are not likely to make any final decision about either F1 or the broader motorsport strategy until the New Year.

"We also have to figure out what our path forward in sportscar racing is, and where we go with that. We are not looking at F1 in isolation."
