Jenson Button wants a quick decision to be made on his McLaren future "either way", but has refused to be drawn on whether the team's continuing poor form will impact his decision.
McLaren has an option on Button's contract it can exercise for 2016 but has junior drivers Kevin Magnussen and GP2 series leader Stoffel Vandoorne waiting in the wings. Eric Boullier said earlier this weekend the team "intends" to keep its current line-up of Button and Fernando Alonso.
Button had to wait until December of last year before being retained for the current campaign and is in no mood for a repeat in 2016.
"I think that's something we need to discuss away from the circuit, I think over the next few weeks," Button said. "I think it's always in your hands...so hopefully over the next few weeks we can decide either way."
Asked if the team's current lack of performance will impact his own decision, he said: "I think I've said too much already."
Button laboured to 14th at the Italian Grand Prix as McLaren's struggles with Honda continued. A great start saw Button climb as high as ninth on the opening lap and he said that was as good as the race was ever going to get.
"I had a good start into Turn 1 so I enjoyed that," he said. "Then it was basically just waiting for people to come by.The problem is it's quite difficult because they are passing you in places you didn't think possible.
"The whole time you're looking in your mirrors on the entry to a corner, which is unusual. It makes it very difficult in the race when you have low [ERS] deployment."
