Wickets and chill: A Netflix-ish guide to the 2019 Cricket World Cup

Which one of your favorite stars does Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli most remind us of? Robert Cianflone/Getty Images

Can't tell a googly from a sticky wicket? No problem! You can still find a team to love at the Cricket World Cup (May 30-July 14) using our Netflix-ish guide and incredibly advanced ratings, a five-point system we created based on cricket's current world rankings, which factors in wins and points accrued.

If you liked Deflategate, you'll love ... Australia

Imagine being one of the world's best and still cheating. Sound familiar? In March 2018, cameras caught bowler Cameron Bancroft rubbing the ball with sandpaper to change its flight. The brains of the operation, Steven Smith and David Warner, got one-year bans, which ran out just before the World Cup. Keep your hands where we can see 'em!

If you liked the 2018 Yankees, you'll love ... West Indies

Win or lose, you know the West Indies will be anything but boring. They can be inconsistent, but with big hitters Kieron Pollard and Chris Gayle, who holds the record for most sixes (like home runs) in international cricket, and fast bowlers like Kemar Roach and Shannon Gabriel, a showstopping slugfest is guaranteed!

If you liked Messi's Argentina, you'll love ... India

Superstar Virat Kohli had his best year yet, smashing records and scooping up awards. But he faces another hurdle in his plan to become the GOAT -- leading heavily favored India to his first WC win as captain. Some of the world's best, like Kohli's hero, Sachin Tendulkar, have buckled under pressure in the past. Will he hold up?

If you liked Maria Sharapova, you'll love ... Bangladesh

What's that noise coming from the pitch? Oh, that's just Bangladesh. The team, which only recently became a top contender, likes to raise the roof. The wicket keeper amps up his bowler against the batsmen, the gaggle of infielders clap constantly and cheer one another on. Sure, it's kind of cute, but imagine trying to focus on the ball amid the racket.

If you liked JR Smith: 2018 Finals, you'll love ... South Africa

South Africa always finds new bizarre ways to lose. In 2003, it was KO'd from the group stage by one run -- because it miscounted the runs it needed. The team has made so many errors in the last two World Cups that it's been labeled "chokers." Don't bet against another missed opportunity for the best team to never win the WC.

Rating: 4/5 stars

If you liked Duke vs. UNC, you'll love ... India vs. Pakistan

There is no bigger rivalry. Tensions are so high that the teams don't face off in one-on-one contests -- and that was before a Pakistani insurgent group attacked an Indian convoy in February, nearly sparking another war. The World Cup is that rare time fans can see them play, leading to some crazy antics, like the losing players egging the winners' houses.
