Commentary
That's an inspired substitution from Diego Simeone, who brings on Lookman to get an assist within 75 seconds of the restart!

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLL!!!! Atleti level things up right at the start of the second half!!! The substitute stamps his authority straight away, with Grimaldo playing Lookman into crossing space down the left, and the forward fires a low cross into Alvarez's feet. The Argentine cleverly sweeps a first-time, left-footed finish across Seimen's dive and into the top-right corner, undoing all of Stuttgart's good work to make it 1–1!!
Stuttgart's superb opening 45 has flipped our pre-match live probability ratings, with the hosts now having a 57.8% chance of victory at MHP Arena. Atletico have a lot of ground to make up in terms of their performance, but a 1–0 scoreline means they're certainly not out of sight, and they're given a 16.1% chance of turning things around as Alvarez kicks off the second half!

Ademola Lookman comes on for the relatively anonymous David at half-time with Diego Simeone going to his bench already, and it remains to be seen just how the Nigeria international will partner Alvarez up front.
Atletico have hardly been able to keep up with El Khannouss so far, with Stuttgart's number 11 starting their relentless wave of chances right from the first whistle. The Moroccan has managed 0.13 xG from his two strikes on goal so far, as well as creating a chance from his game-high 11 final-third passes. Despite winning just two of his six on-the-ball duels, El Khannouss has won possession on three occasions, maintaining a 100% tackle success rate. Unplayable.
The whistle sounds to signal the end of a first half few would have seen coming, as Stuttgart head into the break with the most one-sided of 1–0 leads against Atletico Madrid! The visitors' six-match winning run made them pre-match favourites despite Stuttgart's 100% record in Europe, but it was the hosts who came flying out of the blocks, testing Oblak twice inside the first minute through El Khannouss and Vagnoman. Die Roten rallied time and time again to produce attack after attack, yet have only mustered 0.45 xG despite Fuhrich, El Khannouss, Stiller and Leweling each going close to scoring on multiple occasions inside the opening 20 minutes. Just as Atleti thought they were getting back into the arm-wrestle via Pubill's header over, the centre-back slipped up on the edge of his own box and Leweling was there to capitalise, curling a crisp effort into the bottom corner to finally give Die Schwaben the 1–0 lead they deserved. Atletico have looked to respond, with 0.33 xG of their own from Hancko's back-to-back efforts, but Diego Simeone's side are lucky to not be further behind, with only desperate defence preventing Stuttgart from not already being out of sight.
