Lis, Pannell power Texas Tech past Florida, into WCWS
Texas Tech defeated Florida 16-7 on Sunday at Pressly Softball Stadium in Gainesville, Florida, as the Red Raiders won the super regional and advanced to the Women's College World Series.
Jackie Lis went 3-for-3 with five RBIs and two home runs for Texas Tech. Taylor Pannell added two home runs and four RBIs. Mia Williams also homered and drove in two runs.
Ava Brown hit a three-run homer for the Gators. Kenleigh Cahalan went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs, and Kendall Grover contributed a two-run double.
After Texas Tech scored three in the top of the first, Florida answered with four runs in the bottom half, capped by Cahalan's two-run homer. The Red Raiders responded in the top of the second with a two-run home run from Williams and another two-run shot from Lis to go up 7-4. Brown's three-run blast in the bottom of the second tied the score at 7-7.
Texas Tech took the lead for good in the third on a solo home run by Pannell and Lis' second homer of the day, a three-run shot that made it 11-7. Pannell hit her second home run, a two-run shot, in the fourth inning. The Red Raiders added three more runs in the fifth, and the game was called after five innings due to the run rule.
Up next: Texas Tech faces Mississippi State in the Women's College World Series at 12 p.m. ET on Thursday at Devon Park in Oklahoma City.
