Ex-Gator Williams homers in 7th to lift Texas Tech over Florida

Mia Williams hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning against her former team, lifting Texas Tech to a wild 10-8 victory over Florida in the opener of the NCAA Gainesville Super Regional on Friday at Pressly Softball Stadium.

Williams, who transferred from Florida after last season, finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs to lead the Red Raiders. The game-winning blast capped a slugfest that saw the teams combine for seven home runs. Lauren Allred was a major contributor for Texas Tech, going 3-for-4 with a three-run homer and four RBIs. Lagi Quiroga also went deep for the Red Raiders, finishing 2-for-2 with a solo shot and two RBIs. Kaitlyn Terry pitched five innings for Texas Tech, allowing five runs, though only two were earned, while striking out four.

Florida erased a six-run deficit to tie the game before Williams' heroics. Ava Brown powered the Gators' offense, going 3-for-4 with two home runs and five RBIs. Brown hit a two-run homer in the fifth and a three-run shot in the sixth that tied the game 8-8. Kendall Grover also had a strong day at the plate, collecting three hits and a RBI.

The Gators jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on Grover's RBI single. Texas Tech was held scoreless until the fourth, when it plated three runs to take the lead. The Red Raiders exploded for four more in the fifth to build a 7-1 advantage. Florida answered with three runs in the bottom of the fifth on back-to-back home runs from Brown and Townsen Thomas. After Texas Tech added a run in the sixth, Florida rallied again with a solo homer from Madison Walker and Brown's game-tying three-run shot, setting the stage for Williams' go-ahead home run in the seventh.
