Oklahoma dominates Michigan to win Norman Regional


The Oklahoma Sooners scored early and used three pitchers to shut down the Michigan Wolverines 8-1 on Sunday to win their NCAA regional final at Love's Field in Norman, Oklahoma.

Oklahoma's offense had nine hits, including three home runs, to cruise to a comfortable victory and a spot in the super regionals.

The Sooners (51-8) wasted no time, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI single from Gabbie Garcia and a two-run single by Isabela Emerling. Kai Minor, who went 2-for-5, launched a solo home run in the fourth inning. Ailana Agbayani also had a big day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs, including an RBI double in the fifth and a solo home run in the seventh. Garcia finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Emerling was 2-for-4.

Oklahoma's pitching staff was equally effective. Starter Audrey Lowry tossed 4⅔ innings, giving up only one run and three hits while striking out three. The bullpen duo of Kierston Deal and Sydney Berzon finished the game, combining for 2⅓ hitless innings.

Michigan (36-22) managed only three hits. The Wolverines' lone run came in the bottom of the second inning on a solo home run by Erin Hoehn, who was 1-for-3. Ella Stephenson and Maddie Erickson were the only other Michigan players with a hit. Starting pitcher Gabby Ellis was chased after one inning, giving up four runs and three hits.
