Boroff's grand slam helps power Troy past Little Rock


Jabe Boroff hit two home runs, including a grand slam, to power Troy to a 12-2 victory over Little Rock on Friday at Riddle-Pace Field in the NCAA Troy Super Regional in Troy, Alabama.

Boroff, who finished 2-for-4 with six RBIs, hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning and sealed the game with a grand slam in the eighth. His sixth home run of the NCAA tournament tied a record.

Troy took control with a five-run second inning. Drew Nelson's RBI triple tied the score 1-1. Aaron Piasecki and Josh Pyne hit back-to-back home runs to extend the lead. Piasecki finished 1-for-5 with two RBIs, and Pyne went 1-for-5 with one RBI. Steven Meier and Drew Nelson each went 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Nelson added two RBIs and a stolen base, and Meier also stole a base.

Troy starter Benjamin Stubbs pitched six innings, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out five and walking none. Reliever Zach Crotchfelt followed with two scoreless innings, striking out two, and Matt Dill closed out the ninth.

Little Rock jumped out to an early lead in the first inning on an RBI infield single by Blake Simpson. Simpson drove in the team's only other run in the third on a fielder's choice, finishing 1-for-4. Kade Smith went 3-for-4 with a run scored. Angel Cano and Trey Hill added a hit apiece.

Starting pitcher Brannon Westmoreland struggled for Little Rock, surrendering six runs (five earned) on seven hits and two home runs in 3⅓ innings.
