Shumate's 18 help McNeese knock off undermanned Incarnate Word 87-71
LAKE CHARLES, La. -- — Christian Shumate had 18 points in McNeese's 87-71 victory against shorthanded Incarnate Word on Saturday night.
Incarnate Word was without four players who were suspended by the Southland Conference after a postgame brawl with Texas A&M-Commerce on Monday. Point guard Elijah Davis got a three-game suspension, and guard Alex Anderson, center Gabe Beny Til, and forward Marcus Glover were suspended for two games each.
Shumate added 10 rebounds for the Cowboys (24-3, 13-1 Southland Conference). Antavion Collum added 14 points while going 4 of 10 from the floor, including 2 for 3 from 3-point range, and 4 for 4 from the line, and he also had five rebounds and five assists. Shahada Wells was 3 of 10 shooting, including 1 for 3 from 3-point range, and went 5 for 6 from the line to finish with 12 points.
TJ Ford Jr. led the Cardinals (8-19, 3-11) in scoring, finishing with 14 points and five assists. Incarnate Word also got 13 points and three blocks from Shon Robinson. In addition, Sky Wicks finished with 13 points.
