Alyssa Thompson scored twice in quick succession to lead visiting Angel City FC to a 2-1 triumph over San Diego Wave FC at Snapdragon Stadium on Saturday.

Thompson opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a left-footed shot from the left side of the box that found the bottom left corner. She doubled her tally nine minutes later, finishing off a fast break with a right-footed shot from the center of the box, as assisted by Meggie Dougherty Howard.

San Diego finally broke through in stoppage time when Abby Dahlkemper headed home a goal from close range following an assist by María Sánchez in a set piece situation. Despite the late score, it was too little too late as Angel City held firm defensively until game's end.

The win improved Angel City's record to 5-3-9, while the Wave fell to 3-6-8.
