Bayern Munich kicked off their Bundesliga season in style with a 5-1 win over Stuttgart.

Bayern are looking for a third successive title under Vincent Kompany and they set the standard during Friday night's curtain-raiser.

Dayot Upamecano, Michael Olise, Aleksandar Pavlovic and Luis Díaz were on the scoresheet and a Josha Vagnoman own goal delivered a statement victory in their opening game.

Vagnoman had briefly drawn Stuttgart level, but the visitors were never really in the game.

The only disappointment was for Harry Kane, who failed to score on a night when goals rained in.

Bayern have not lost their first Bundesliga game of the season for 15 consecutive years.

It was business as usual for Kompany's men as they took a 21st-minute lead.

Joshua Kimmich swung in a delicious corner from the left and Upamecano was in the right place to head home from close range at the near post.

Stuttgart surprisingly pulled level when Manuel Neuer did well to keep out Jeff Chabot's far post header but the ball fell to Vagnoman who slammed home a 12-yard volley.

But Bayern regained the lead just three minutes later in the 55th minute. Kimmich collected a loose ball, drove towards the penalty area and then slipped in Olise, who made no mistake from 12 yards.

And the hosts gave themselves a cushion another three minutes later when this time Vagnoman got his feet all wrong and turned Davies' cross into his own goal.

Bayern were rampant and Kane assisted Olise for a beautiful fourth goal but it was ruled out by VAR for offside.

The fourth goal did arrive in the 82nd minute as Pavlovic had an easy tap in from substitute Ismael Saibari's pull-back..

Díaz completed the rout at the death when Saibari sent him through and he slotted into the far corner.
