Commentary
Arsenal come from behind to beat a spirited Leeds United 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium! In a contest that was anything but straightforward for the reigning champions, Arsenal failed to impose any of their usual authority in the first half, with Leeds proving stubborn opposition as the sides went into the break goalless. After the restart, it was more of the same, and the Whites needed no second invitation to take the lead. Leeds' wing-backs covered almost every blade of grass, and it was Gudmundsson who drilled the ball right across the box for Justin to smash home into the top-left corner and make the breakthrough. However, that goal proved to be the kick Arsenal needed. Calafiori rediscovered his goalscoring touch from close range to level proceedings, and from that moment on the Gunners looked threatening every time they attacked. Guimaraes was an inspired introduction from the bench and found the eventual winner with a rifled finish into the bottom corner as Arsenal made their superiority count, converting 2.58 xG into two goals. Leeds posted just 0.68 xG but were worthy competitors throughout and pushed the champions all the way. Arteta's side move onto 15 points alongside Manchester City and now turn their attention to a UEFA Champions League meeting with Lille. As for Leeds, they suffer their first defeat of the campaign before returning home for a clash with Manchester United. That's all from us here, thank you for joining – goodbye!
FULL-TIME: ARSENAL 2-1 LEEDS UNITED
SAVED! Saka races clean through on goal with the chance to put the finishing touch on Arsenal's comeback, but Trafford refuses to be beaten again. The Leeds goalkeeper spreads himself well and gets a crucial touch to divert the effort behind for a corner. It matters little in the end though, as there isn't enough time left to take it!
Arsenal deal with a long throw from the far side, but Merino's clearance can't be kept in by Madueke right in front of the dugout. Leeds have just over 60 seconds remaining to rescue something from this contest, with time running desperately short for the visitors.
TRAFFORD IS FORTUNATE! The Leeds goalkeeper comes racing out to deal with a bouncing ball, but completely misjudges the bounce just outside his own area and allows Gyokeres to nick possession. The Sweden international is forced wide by Trafford's recovery, but still has the opportunity to pull the trigger. Instead, he lays it off for Saka, and while Arsenal keep the move alive, Leeds eventually scramble clear, with Madueke seeing a shot blocked. The visitors are let completely off the hook there.
We're into at least five minutes of added time at the end of this one!
