C Palace v Newcastle

Newcastle pick up a much needed three points, as two quick goals in the second half led them to a 2-0 victory at Selhurst Park. The first half was an unmemorable one, with the best chance coming in the opening five minutes, when Mateta’s prodded effort was saved by Hornicek. Newcastle took the lead less than two minutes into the second half, as Osula was on the end of Murphy’s cross into the box, scoring from close range. Willock had a goal ruled out just minutes later, after VAR deemed him to be offside before he scored. It didn’t matter too much however, as in the 58th minute Barnes did double the Newcastle lead with a first-time strike from inside the area. Palace did force Hornicek into two good saves in the following 15 minutes, but the goalkeeper would have been extremely disappointed if he was to let either of them in. The hosts ended the game with a whimper but did accumulate an xG of 1.66 this afternoon (Newcastle with 0.98 xG). Newcastle climb up to seventh, whilst Palace sit in 17th place after eight games. Next up for the Eagles is a trip to North London to face Tottenham Hotspur – Newcastle host Everton. Thank you all for tuning into our coverage and have a great rest of your day!

Substitution

Newcastle make their final change of the afternoon, as Thiaw is on for Dedic.

Newcastle are now happy to sit in and defend the lead, but they look so dangerous on the break with Wissa and Elanga.
