      Revell hat-trick inspires Stevenage to victory over Exeter

      Alex Revell scored a hat-trick as Stevenage marked their final home game of the season in style with a 3-1 victory over Exeter that ended the visitors' automatic promotion hopes.The Grecians needed something out of the game to keep up the pressure on third-place Wycombe, but their win at Chesterfield means that they can no longer be caught.Stevenage opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Ben Sheaf found Matt Godden with a fine pass and he teed up Revell to score at the near post.Exeter goalkeeper Christy Pym was then badly at fault for the hosts' second goal, as he was beaten to a loose ball by Revell, who rolled into an empty net.Four minutes into the second half, Revell completed his hat-trick with an excellent first-time finish after being teed up inside the area by Ben Kennedy.The Grecians did manage to pull one back with 12 minutes left through a confident Pierce Sweeney penalty after Jake Taylor was tripped in the area by Terence Vancooten.

        Yorwerth's equaliser denies Exeter a place in the top three

        Exeter City failed to take advantage of Wycombe Wanderers' loss to Accrington Stanley and climb above them and into League Two's top three as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Crawley Town at St James' Park.Crawley went in front on 29 minutes when Enzio Boldewijn latched onto a smart ball from Lewis Young and rolled it past Christy Pym in the 30th minute. Exeter were struggling, but it was their leading goalscorer Jayden Stockley who brought them level in the 42nd minute when he took down a high ball inside the box, created a shooting chance and despite Glenn Morris getting a hand to the ball, Stockley's shot just crept over the line. The Grecians went in front on the hour mark when a Lloyd James corner found Stockley in the box and he rammed the ball past Morris from six yards and Jake Taylor almost made it three but fired straight at Morris. Crawley levelled it up in the 69th minute when Josh Yorwerth got above Jordan Storey to head in a Jordan Roberts corner, but Exeter almost went back in front through Kyle Edwards, who was denied by a brilliant Morris save. Stockley came close to a hat-trick in the 79th minute, but his shot crashed down off the underside of the crossbar and he was denied again by a brilliant stop by Morris in the 89th minute as Exeter failed to get the goal they needed to claim the win and go third in the table.

          Exeter keep promotion hopes on track with win

          Exeter kept the pressure on Wycombe in the race for automatic promotion from League Two with a nervy 2-1 win over Chesterfield at St James' Park. City created the best of the early chances with Jayden Stockley seeing his shot saved by Aaron Ramsdale, although Kristian Dennis screwed a decent chance wide for Chesterfield. The Grecians continued to press and they got the goal their play deserved on 39 minutes when Jake Taylor stood a cross up to the back post where Stockley powered in a header from six yards for his 22nd goal of the season. Dennis fired tamely at Christy Pym early in the second half before the Spireites came close to an equaliser when Exeter's Lloyd James headed against his own post and George Smith was denied by a superb reflex stop by Pym on the rebound. Pierce Sweeney forced a smart stop from Ramsey with a fierce free-kick in the 74th minute for Exeter and from the resulting corner, Alex Whitmore turned into his own goal from Hiram Boateng's cross to double the Grecians' lead.Chesterfield's Andy Kellett pulled one back in the 84th minute after good work by Joe Rowley but Exeter held firm to pick up an important three points.

            Accrington Stanley's automatic promotion bid is on hold after they were held to a 1-1 draw by fifth-placed Exeter.Table-topping Stanley needed a win over the Grecians to secure promotion to the third tier of English football for the first time in their history - but a draw means all the focus is now on Tuesday's home game with Yeovil.Former Stanley loan player Jayden Stockley fired Exeter ahead after a cagey opening. Matt Jay's initial effort was saved and Stockley pounced on a loose ball in the area, finding the roof of the net midway through the first half with his 21st goal of the season.They could have doubled their lead moments later but Aaron Chapman finger-tipped over a Jay volley, while promotion-hopefuls Exeter survived some pinball in their area with Billy Kee unable to connect.Kayden Jackson equalised after 38 minutes with a solo goal, getting the ball on the edge of the area from Mark Hughes and driving it home for his 15th goal of the season.Kee came close to adding to Stanley's tally but his long-range effort went narrowly over the bar.Accrington started the second half strongly with Jordan Clark's 35-yard strike not far off, although - at the other end - Chapman had to be alert to keep out a Stockley strike with one hand.Jake Taylor was also denied by the home keeper, Exeter's Hiram Boateng saw his fierce effort deflected just wide while, at the other end, Christy Pym denied Jordan Clark as the two sides shared the spoils.

              Exeter complete stunning comeback victory over Cambridge

              Exeter mounted an extraordinary late comeback to win 3-2 at Cambridge and keep their hopes of automatic promotion alive.The U's looked to have won the game when George Maris put them 2-1 up with an exquisite effort from outside the box on 67 minutes - his third goal in three games - but the Grecians struck twice in the final six minutes.Matt Jay pounced to equalise from close range after Greg Taylor had failed to clear and Jayden Stockley's shot was deflected into his path, before Jake Taylor struck the winner for Exeter on 87 minutes after Cambridge were again unable to clear the danger.Jabo Ibehre had opened the scoring for Cambridge three minutes before half-time when a patient move resulted in Brad Halliday drilling the ball across for Ibehre to score from close range.Stockley equalised just before the hour when Hiram Boateng was given freedom of the left wing to pick out Stockley, who headed home.

                Robbie Simpson marks return with goal as Exeter pick up big win over Cheltenham

                Robbie Simpson marked his return with a goal as Exeter came from behind to beat Cheltenham 2-1 and boost their hopes of promotion from Sky Bet League Two.Simpson was making his first start since suffering a broken ankle a year ago and he drew Exeter level before Jordan Storey's 81st-minute winner sealed the three points for the Grecians.Jayden Stockley hit the bar for Exeter, but Cheltenham went in front after 37 minutes when captain Carl Winchester picked the ball up some way out.The midfielder advanced forward and unleashed a fine low shot that beat Christy Pym from 20 yards and found the bottom corner.The Grecians were level three minutes before half-time, though, when Simpson volleyed home from Jake Taylor's superb cross.Exeter started the second half purposefully, with Dean Moxey striking the outside of the far post.Jerell Sellars came even closer for Cheltenham when his shot hit the inside of the post before being hacked clear by the Exeter defence.Exeter midfielder Hiram Boateng was next to hit the woodwork as his shot deflected onto the top of the crossbar and behind.However, in the 81st minute, Storey thumped a header home from Lloyd James' corner to seal a massive win for the fourth-placed hosts.

                  Palmer scores late winner for Lincoln

                  Substitute Ollie Palmer hit a late winner as Lincoln beat Sky Bet League Two promotion rivals Exeter 3-2 in a pulsating contest.Jayden Stockley nodded the visitors in front in the 10th minute and the Grecians held their lead until half-time despite intense pressure from the Imps.Stockley almost doubled his side's lead just before the break, but his shot hit the base of the post.Lincoln drew level on the hour mark when Danny Rowe nodded home from close range after Elliott Whitehouse's shot had been saved and, barely two minutes later, Matt Green smashed home from a tight angle to make it 2-1.Jordan Storey hit the bar for Exeter before the visitors equalised through Jake Taylor's angled drive.Palmer thought he had made it 3-2 but his header was ruled out for a foul, while a header from another Imps substitute, Luke Waterfall, hit the bar.However, Palmer did prove to be the match-winner when he fired home in the 86th minute to the delight of Sincil Bank's biggest crowd of the season, as Lincoln climbed into the play-off places.

                    Exeter boost promotion hopes with win over Swindon

                    Exeter picked up three huge points in the race for promotion from League Two and put a dent in Swindon's hopes with a 3-1 win at St James Park. Swindon went in front after 27 minutes when Kaiyne Woolery capitalised on some shoddy defending to calmly slot the ball past Exeter goalkeeper Christy Pym from six yards. Jayden Stockley then had a goal disallowed for Exeter, who equalised in the 33rd minute when Jake Taylor smashed home from close range as the Grecians kept a deep Kane Wilson cross alive.Exeter were then awarded a penalty in the 43rd minute when Dean Moxey was fouled by Matty Taylor and Pierce Sweeney hammered the ball beyond the outstretched dive of Stuart Moore.Marc Richards volleyed straight at Pym as Swindon started the second half well while Amine Linganzi stung the palms of the keeper with a ferocious shot from distance. Exeter rarely attacked in the second half but they sealed the win in the 88th minute when Hiram Boateng crossed and Stockley struck the ball into the roof of the net from six yards.

                      Jayden Stockley's penalty keeps Exeter's promotion push on track

                      Exeter maintained their League Two promotion push with a 1-0 victory over lowly hosts Grimsby Town.It was a tale of two penalties as the first-half drew to a close at Blundell Park, before the Grecians were later reduced to ten-men when Kane Wilson picked up two yellow cards.Jayden Stockley made no mistake for Exeter in the 37th minute - but 90 seconds later, JJ Hooper sent his spot-kick wide at the other end.Hooper struck over when well positioned earlier on, while full debutant Harry Clifton was also stopped in his tracks on the line.Upon the restart, the advancing Troy Brown headed inches wide of James McKeown's right-hand post.A long-range attempt from Hooper, shortly before he was replaced, was as close as Grimsby came in the second-half.Mitch Rose and Clifton also missed the target with almost identical drives, while loanee Jamille Matt entered the fray and forced Christy Pym into his first save.But the referee soon called time as Grimsby's winless run was extended to 14 matches.

                        Exeter complete fine comeback at Crewe

                        Late goals from Jordan Moore-Taylor and Jayden Stockley saw Exeter come from behind in dramatic fashion to claim a 2-1 win at Crewe.The strugglers thought they had bagged maximum points through a late strike by Shaun Miller, who turned the ball in from close range in the 88th minute, as a game of few clear chances appeared to be heading for a goalless stalemate.But there was a frantic finish in store at Gresty Road as Moore-Taylor pounced in the last minute when the Grecians kept the ball alive from a corner.And then Stockley headed home Lee Holmes' cross at the far post in stoppage time to steal a win which moved Paul Tisdale's side up to seventh in League Two. Crewe had the better chances in the first half when skipper Paul Green went close, diverting fellow loanee Harry McKirdy's low cross goalwards with Christy Pym making a reaction save.Efforts from Zoumana Bakayogo and McKirdy did not miss by much, but both sides lacked a cutting edge.Crewe goalkeeper Ben Garratt had to repel Stockley's angled drive and Exeter came out with greater resolve after the break with Stockley just failing to apply a firm finish to Kyle Edwards' cross.The visitors thought their efforts had come to nought when Miller netted the third goal of his loan spell, but Stockley and Moore-Taylor struck at the death.
