When does the transfer window open in 2020? Premier League, Serie A, La Liga, Bundesliga, Ligue 1

NB: The information in this page is correct at the current time. However, due to the coronavirus crisis, this summer's transfer window is a work in progress.

Clubs are still able to sign players as free agents after the October deadline, and as long as they are not officially attached to any club when the window closes.

There is no confirmed deadline date as yet, though UEFA has asked all leagues to align with a transfer deadline of Oct. 5, ahead of an Oct. 6 date for Champions League and Europa League squads to be submitted.

Premier League transfer deadline

For the past two seasons, the Premier League transfer window closed on the Thursday before the first game of the season.

But clubs were unhappy with the rest of Europe being able to trade while their window was shut, so clubs voted to reverted to the old transfer system. However, the planned date of Sept. 1 will now not be used due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Premier League chief executive Richard Masters has confirmed the transfer window will not open until the season ends on July 26. At present there is no official date announced for the window to close,

The EFL has not yet announced its plans, but it is expected to fall into line with the top division having also closed early in recent seasons.

The winter window will run throughout January 2021 as usual.

La Liga transfer deadline

Like the Premier League, president Javier Tebas says the window will open after the season ends -- and ESPN sources say this will be on Aug. 4 running through to Oct. 4.

The winter transfer window will open on Jan. 4 through to Feb. 1.

Serie A transfer deadline

The Serie A season will end on Aug. 2, though the transfer window will not officially open until Tuesday, Sept. 1 -- expect many deals to be confirmed before this date. It is already confirmed the Italian window will run through to Monday, Oct. 5. The winter window will run from Jan. 4 to Feb. 1.

Bundesliga transfer deadline

The German transfer market opens for just one day on July 1, to enable players to register with their new clubs based on pre-agreed deals.

It will then reopen on Wednesday, July 15 and run right through to Oct. 5.

Ligue 1 transfer deadline

With the season curtailed, Ligue 1 opened its window as usual on June 8 -- but only for domestic transfers. As a window can only last 12 weeks, we await confirmation of exactly how the French transfer window will operate.

MLS transfer deadline
